Guverner Virdžinije Teri Mekolif je proglasio vanredno stanje pošto je izbio sukob izmedju belačkih demonstranata, odnosno nacionalista koji su nosili oklope i štitove kada su se okupili da protestrvuju zbog uklanjanja konfederativne statue i kontra demonstranata u Šarlotsvilu u Virdžiniji. Savetnik predsednika Trampa za nacionalnu bezbednost H.R. Mekmaster je rekao da je smrtonosno nasilje u Šarlotsvilu "potpada pod definiciju terorizma i da je možda motivisano mržnjom i rasizmom".
